KHACHATURIAN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Jury Regulations

The jury (hereinafter Jury) of the Khachaturian International Competition (hereinafter Competition) is constituted of a Chair of the Jury (hereinafter Chair) and six members of the Jury.

The Jury operates in compliance with the following rules.

Pre-selection stage: 1st and 2nd Rounds:

  • Yes - 10 points
  • Maybe - 5 points
  • No - 0 points

3rd Round

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners are determined by the sums of the order numbers of each candidate, with the lowest sum number corresponding to the 1st prize, the second and third lowest sum numbers corresponding to the 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively. The same calculation scheme applies to the places 4 to 6.

1. Voting of the Contestants

1.1 Pre-selection

Voting of the applicants at the Pre-selection stage is done by the Chair and his authorized Board of Jury (hereinafter Pre-selection Jury).

No more than 24 participants of the Pre-selection stage may be selected to participate in the 1st round of the competition. The contestants are selected in compliance with the Voting criteria of the Pre-selection stage, according to which the total number of “yes” and “maybe” votes may not be higher than 24.

The Jury is required to give votes to ALL contestants.

The maximum duration of the Pre-selection stage is 7 days.

1.2 1st Round

The voting of the 1st Round starts following the performance of the last contestant of the 1st Round. The Jury has 30 minutes to complete the voting.

The Jury is required to give votes to ALL contestants.

In the result of the voting, precisely 12 contestants must be selected to participate in the 2nd Round. The candidates are ranked according to the highest sum of the received through the “yes” (10 points) and “maybe” (5 points) votes.

Should there be a tie, the selection from the exceeding number of candidates is done based on the maximum number of “yes” and “maybe” votes given to each candidate.

If two or more candidates have received an equal number of “yes” and “maybe” votes, the Jury will re-vote on the tied candidates until a decision is made.

1.3 2nd Round (Semifinal)

The voting of the 2nd Round starts following the performance of the last contestant of the 2nd Round. The Jury has 30 minutes to complete the voting.

The Jury is required to give votes to ALL contestants.

In the result of the voting, precisely 6 contestants must be selected to participate in the 3rd Round. The candidates are ranked according to the highest sum of the received through the “yes” (10 points) and “maybe” (5 points) votes.

Should there be a tie, the selection from the exceeding number of candidates is done based on the maximum number of “yes” and “maybe” votes given to each candidate.

If two or more candidates have received an equal number of “yes” and “maybe” votes, the Jury will re-vote on the tied candidates until a decision is made.

1.4 3rd Round (Final)

The voting of the 3rd Round starts following the performance of the last contestant of the 3rd Round. The Jury has 45 minutes to complete the voting.

The Jury is required to give votes to ALL contestants.

The Jury ranks the candidates in the order numbers 1 to 6.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners are determined by the sums of the order numbers of each candidate, with the lowest sum number corresponding to the 1st prize, the second and third lowest sum numbers corresponding to the 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively. The same calculation scheme applies to the places 4 to 6.

The 1st prize of the Competition may not be shared.

Should there be a tie among the 1st prize winners, the Jury will re-vote on the tied candidates until a decision is made.

Once the 1st prize winner is determined, the remaining candidates will share the 2nd prize with the other winners of the 2nd prize.

The 2nd and 3rd prizes of the Competition may be shared with other contestants ranked for the respective prizes.

2. Chair of the Jury

The Chair is responsible to ensure fair and well-ordered working procedure of the Jury. In the event of absence of the Chair of the Jury during any of the Rounds due to unforeseen circumstances, the Chair is replaced by one of the Jury members by the decision of the organizational committee of the Competition.

In the event of absence of a Jury member during any of the Rounds due to unforeseen circumstances, the Chair reserves the right to give points in place of the absent Jury member at his discretion.

3. Monetary Rewards

The Competition institutes 3 awards in prize money:

1st Prize

Prize money in AMD equal to 10,000 USD*, Laureate Diploma and a Recording contracts by PARMA Recordings, GRAMMY-nominated Navona Records label

2nd Prize

Prize money in AMD equal to 5,000 USD* and a Laureate Diploma

3rd Prize

Prize money in AMD equal to 3,000 USD* and a Laureate Diploma

*Calculated at the US Dollar exchange rate, officially announced by the Central Bank of Armenia on the payment day of the reward. The reward is liable to taxation in compliance with the tax legislation of the Republic of Armenia.

4. Nominations

In addition to the receivers of monetary awards, the Jury is required to select Nominees during all rounds of the Competition. A Nominee is a contestant that receives the highest number of votes for a particular nomination. A nomination may be shared among two or more contestants to have received equal votes required for a particular nomination.

6 out of the 7 Nominations instituted for the Competition are selected through voting by the Jury.

The following Nominations are distinguished:

1. Best interpretation of a composition for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach (1st Round)

2. Best interpretation of a Caprice by Niccolò Paganini (1st Round)

3. Best interpretation of a Romance by Ludwig van Beethoven (1st Round)

4. Best interpretation of the Song-poem by Aram Khachaturian (1st Round)

5. Best interpretation of a sonata (2nd Round)

6. Best interpretation of the Dance by Aram Khachaturian (2nd Round)

Performances of the winners of Nominations will be placed at the website and social media profiles of the Competition.

The contestants may also receive an “Audience Award”. The winner of the “Audience Award” is determined by open public voting on the Facebook page of the Competition throughout the whole duration of the Competition.

The voting results for the Nominations are announced by the Jury immediately after the submission of their votes for the 3rd (Final) round.

The voting results of each round and of the Nominations are announced in accordance with the Competition Schedule (attached to this document).

5. General Rules for the Jury’s Operations

  • The members of the Jury are required to fulfill their responsibilities in person via the application provided by the organizational committee, by following the technical requirements indicated therein (attached to this document). A simple User’s Guide for the application of the Competition will be provided to the members of the Jury.
  • After each round, the Jury votes for the contestants via the application and confirms the votes in a protocol.
  • Any decision and voting result by the Jury and the organizational committee of the competition is subject to confirmation in a form of a protocol.
  • The Jury does not have the right to vote more than once or make changes in the voting for a particular round.
  • The votes of the Jury members are confidential and may not be revealed to the other members of the Jury, contestants or third parties. The organizational committee of the Competition is responsible for the confidentiality of the votes to ensure the unrestrained work of the Jury.
  • Throughout the whole duration of the Competition the members of the Jury are not allowed to share and exchange with each other impressions or opinions on the performances of the contestants, as well as contact any of the contestants, with the exception of those contestants who have left the Competition. These contestants may be contacted by the Jury through the organizational Committee of the Competition for the purpose of sharing professional advice and insights until June 17.
  • Throughout the whole duration of the Competition the members of the Jury are not allowed to make public any information regarding the contestants or other Jury members or the activities of the Jury.
  • Any information acquired throughout the duration of the Competition is considered the property of the Competition and is not subject to publication, unless otherwise provided by the Competition regulations.
  • The Competition reserves the right to make public any item of personal information provided by the member of the Jury (photo, biography, title) throughout the whole duration of the Competition.

Technical Requirements for Using the Jury Dashboard

  • Stable internet connection
  • Jury members are required to use desktop computers/monitors or laptops while watching and voting the performances
  • Speaker or headphones
  • Web camera
  • Allow access to web camera on web browser
  • Highly recommended to use Google Chrome browser.

1. To get started with the Jury Dashboard, Jury members should follow the steps below:

  • Check emails for the Invitation link and create individual passwords
  • Use the same email and the created password to log in to the Jury Dashboard.

2. It is required to stay logged in throughout the whole period of the competition.

3. It is not recommended to reload or close the Jury Dashboard unless technical issues occur.

4. Make sure your internet connection is stable before the contestant’s performance goes live.

5. In order to attend the live streaming session, the Jury members are required to keep the camera turned on during the entire process. The camera connection link will be provided separately. Please be noticed that the camera will open in a separate tab to ensure an uninterrupted view of the Jury members.

The following information should be considered by the Jury members before the start of the voting process:

1. Jury members should remain alert for pop-ups and hint messages so that they don’t miss any important information regarding the voting procedures;

2. For each round’s voting period a countdown of the remaining time is indicated on the screen. The members of the Jury should follow the countdown closely to be able to submit their votes on time.

RULES

1st and 2nd Rounds

  • Jury members are required to make their YES / MAYBE / NO votes to each of the performances, so that no contestant remains unvoted.

3rd Round

  • Jury members are expected to select contestants to receive the 1st , 2nd and 3rd prizes, as well as give points 4 to 6 to the rest of the contestants.
  • Jury members are expected select contestants for “Other Nominations”

Upon completion of the aforementioned 2 steps, Jury members will be able to submit their votes.
