21st Khachaturian International Competition
Conducting
June 6-12, 2025
The 21st Khachaturian International Competition (hereinafter Competition) will be held in the category of Conducting from June 6 to 12, 2025 and will host young conductors from around the world in Yerevan, Armenia.
Conditions of the Competition
The Competition is open to conductors of any nationality or citizenship, aged between 18 and 35 as of the opening ceremony on June 6, 2025. Conductors who have previously won First Prize in the Competition are not eligible to participate.
The Khachaturian International Conducting Competition consists of a Pre-Selection Stage (a preliminary review of submitted video materials) and two rounds: the 1st Round and the 2nd Round (Final).
18 participants will be selected, based on their primary video auditions, to advance to the 1st Round of the Competition following the Pre-Selection Stage.
6 participants will be selected to advance to the 2nd Round.
The Jury reserves the right to withhold a winning position entirely or to share a position among candidates. The Jury's decision is final and cannot be appealed.
After the results of the 1st Round are announced, a discussion session will be held for participants not selected for the next round. Jury members will provide feedback on each participant's performance.
By the end of the 2nd Round, all jury members will submit written evaluations of each participant’s performance during that round..
The performance program submitted by each participant cannot be changed during the Competition.
All compositions may be conducted using scores. Participants are required to have all necessary scores for each round and must have learned the entire repertoire for the Competition.
The order of appearance for participants will be determined by a random draw and will remain unchanged until the end of the Competition.
A performance dress code has been established for candidates.
The performances in both rounds will be accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, the official orchestra of the Competition.
The 1st and 2nd rounds of the Competition will be held in the "Aram Khachaturian" Concert Hall.
The contestants' performances will be broadcast online. Live coverage will be available until the last contestant's performance each competition day. After the Competition concludes, only the performances of prize-winning contestants will remain available online. All rights to the overall broadcast of the Competition, including its rounds and all audio and video recordings, belong to the Competition and will be made available to participants upon request only. Participants are not permitted to use or share the video recordings of their performances with third parties unless written permission is granted by the Competition.
All finalists of the Competition are required to perform at the closing ceremony and the laureates' concerts.
Selection of Candidates
All candidates must submit one or more links to video recordings of their conducting performances, each with a minimum duration of 15 minutes, featuring either two pianos or an orchestra.The compositions presented during the Pre-Selection Stage audition may also be conducted in the subsequent two rounds of the Competition.
Videos must be unedited and uninterrupted throughout the entire performance of each piece. Only videos recorded after June 6, 2023, will be accepted. The application form should include a detailed list of the compositions to be submitted for audition, along with the date and duration of each video recording. Only compositions from the Classical or Romantic periods are permitted for the primary audition of the Competition.
Candidates will be notified via email if they advance to the First Round of the Competition. The results of the Pre-Selection Stage will be announced on the Competition website on April 5, 2025.
Participation Fee
A participation fee of EUR 200 (equivalent in Armenian Dram) is required for entry into the Competition.
Payments can be made either via bank transfer or through an online payment system. Applicants will receive a link for online payment of the Participation Fee upon application.
Any bank transfer commission fees must be covered by the applicant. The participation fee is non-refundable.
Foreign applicants transferring the participation fee to the Competition's bank account should clearly indicate their first and last names, along with the phrase “Fee for Participation in the 2025 Khachaturian International Competition,” in the Purpose of Payment field.

The Competition reserves the right to reject any application that does not comply with its regulations. Additional information may be requested from participants if necessary.
By applying to participate in the Competition, candidates consent to take part in all rounds in accordance with the Jury’s voting decisions.
During the application process, the Competition collects personal information from participants to fulfill certain procedural requirements. Personal data is stored securely in a reliable database. The following details about participants may be published: First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Nationality, Biography, Photos, Personal Website, and Social Media Profiles. Participants may review their personal information and request changes.
By submitting their application, candidates confirm their acceptance of all conditions of the Competition.
The organizing committee reserves the right to make adjustments to the Competition Rules no later than one month before the start of the First Round.
Upon receiving the invitation, foreign participants should apply for a visa at the Armenian Embassy or Consulate in their respective countries, if required. Throughout the Competition, participants will receive complimentary hotel accommodations and meals.
The Competition does not cover accommodation and meal expenses for any accompanying persons.
